The Tree That Whispers – A Forgotten Corner of Belie

The Tree That Whispers – A Forgotten Corner of Belief...

Somewhere deep in the hills of Matale, there’s a single tree that villagers still call “the whispering tree.”

It stands alone, near an unused paddy field — its roots tangled in old stone. They say no matter how quiet the wind is, this tree moves. Not like a breeze, but like it’s breathing.

No nameplate. No temple nearby. No historical records.

But the belief? Still alive.

I went there on a morning when mist hugged the land. It was so silent, even birds weren’t singing. I stood by the tree for nearly 15 minutes, listening to... nothing.

But “nothing” felt full.

Full of presence. Full of stillness. Full of something I couldn’t explain.

Villagers say if you touch the bark with your left hand and close your eyes, the tree “knows what you're carrying.”

I didn’t ask for anything. I just listened.

And walked away a little quieter than I came.
